Nandell Palmer Author and Writer

Nandell Palmer, CEO

Nandell A. Palmer holds a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in business journalism from the City University of New York at Baruch. He has written extensively for several newspapers and magazines over the years, including the New York Amsterdam News, The Brooklyn Paper, The Ticker, The Reporter, Dollars & $ense, among others. He’s currently the editor-in-chief of NW Cuts N’ Stuff – a Greater Seattle grooming monthly newspaper.

He interned in some of Gotham City’s premier landmarks, among them, the International Press Service (IPS), across from the United Nations at the time. He later worked in some of New York City’s most prestigious law firms and financial houses, editing or proofreading mergers and acquisitions involving multibillion-dollar corporations, annual reports, etc.

From his reporting over the years on sundry topics, Palmer has come to appreciate the power of the written words. An O intended to be a zero can potentially spell doom for an individual or a corporation in the court of law. He has gotten firsthand feedback in postcards, letters, and telephone calls from grateful readers who have found his articles inspiring. That is why he is utilizing this medium to use the written words yet again to engender closer ties among families.

Not one to glean information from the wayside and then make them truisms, Palmer has prided himself on writing from experience. When he was three years old, his parents separated, and not long thereafter, his mother started a new family in London, England. He didn’t see her again until he was 28 years old. It was a period fraught with bitterness and anxiety for him and his siblings left behind. But instead, the indomitable man sought the opportunity to turn those bitter days into sweet blessings.

It took him many years to get over his hurt. Since he wanted to live a more fulfilling life devoid of mental pain, he became proactive and wrote his mother a letter on February 24, 2005. In that letter, he listed “Ten Things I am Grateful to my Mother for.” He found it in his heart to thank her for giving birth to him; for giving him “liquid gold” (colostrum), a powerful component found in a mother’s breast milk to stave off diseases in newborn babies, among other basic yet significant things. He forgave her for leaving him and his siblings at such early stages in their lives, and he closed his letter by asking God to bless her. The biggest hurdle for him, he said, was when he was able to say to his mother, “I love you” for the very first time in his life. It was quite a feat for him since he had never heard those three words from the woman who gave birth to him. In a nutshell, that gesture has changed his life forever. Over time the rancor and bitterness gave way to sheer, unadulterated love.

That newfound love has paved the way for Palmer and his wife, Yvonne, to become adoptive parents to their three handsome nephews: Jevoy, Jevaughn, and Jason, respectively, in June 2005.

Because of his maternal isolation, Palmer has been instrumental in counseling a plethora of men and women, boys and girls in getting their lives back on track. Abandonment is one of the hardest emotions to overcome. And most grown men and women are still trapped in their infancy because of a dad or mom who left home prematurely, Palmer said. He constantly holds out hope to those people: “When life gives you lemon, make sure you get the biggest bowl to make yourself gallons of lemonade,” is one of his favorite quotes.

The man who cannot resist the urge to play tennis, make a sumptuous meal for loved ones, or singing 4-part harmony with a bunch of friends around a piano, lives in Seattle with his wife, Yvonne, and their three boys.

“My true purpose in life, I believe, is to empower families with their own written words to become towers of blessings to one another,” the effusive Palmer said.
